I Write Like

I found an interesting link on Dr. Stravagante's Traveling Book Circus blog today, it is called I Write Like.  You cut and paste your writing into their link and it tells you who you write like.  It's really fun.  I cut and paste the first chapter of my middle school fantasy, The Prophesy of Ilverzah, in and got:

I write like
James Joyce
I Write Like by Mémoires, journal software. Analyze your writing!

Hmmm.  I wondered what would happen with a different chapter, so I picked a random one from the middle and got:

I write like
Dan Brown
I Write Like by Mémoires, journal software. Analyze your writing!

Then I decided to try a third and got James Joyce again.  Then I tried it with a chapter from near the end and got James Joyce again.  Interesting - I think I'm getting the message here.  Not sure about this for the middle school fantasy audience.  I'll have to think on this.  I'm addicted now, so tried a different chapter:

I write like
Mark Twain
I Write Like by Mémoires, journal software. Analyze your writing!

This might me more suitable to the middle school audience!  At least I seem to be in some good company.  If you try it, let me know by leaving a comment, I would love to hear other people's results.

  4. A modern day James Joyce! That's exciting.

Okay, so of course I had to try it. I did it 5 times. I came up with one Rudyard Kipling, one L. Frank Baum, and THREE Neil Gaimans. I'll take that!

  6. it would be an interesting experiment to take selections from these authors OWN works and see if the system identifies them as themselves. lol.

  7. out of curiosity, I took my current NaNo YA Sci Fi novel and plugged chunks of that in (as opposed to the MG fantasy I was using earlier, which is a very different story). I did this four times and each time it said I write like Chuck Palahniuk. At least it was consistent.

    great procrastination device!
